Help! No eggs in 9 Days

Hi,

I have 3 great chickens, RIR, Easter Egger, and I think a Leg Horn, the store told me different but I am pretty sure it is.  All 3 have not laid in 9 days.  Is this normal?  They are all look very healthy, clear eyes, great coloring.  They are walking and moving normal with no signs of problem.   They will be 1 year in April.  I find this strange.  Any help or advise.   Thank you in advance... this site is a life saver for a worried mama hen.

  • They stopped right after the last big rain we had. I don’t know if that scared them. I can’t think of anything that has changed. I went out and check, no sticky stuff to be found. I have not found any remnants of egg anywhere in the coop or the run. We do have a few cats that roam around and bunnies. That may be it. I am going to keep a close eye on the chickens. I would hate to think someone was so brazen to come into my yard to steel eggs. I have been freely sharing with all my neighbors. You know come to think of it, the birds have not been as loud as they usually are. Thank you for your help.
  • Are you hens free ranging? We had the same thing happen twice. Both times we found a place they were laying eggs. The first time, it was under the tarp we put over our bail of hay. The second time it was in a lawn and garbage bag. I had pulled a bunch of weeds, then had to run off and forgot the weed pulling for weeks. We thought the hens were molting, but when my husband looked in the aloe garden, the bag had about 20 eggs in it!!! Both times we searched and searched for eggs and just couldn't figure out where they could be!

I might add, we laughed our heads off both times. These hens crack us up and the kids love the egg hunt. It is great when they just lay in the nesting box, but it is pretty fun when they don't too!
    • LOL! It is funny how much joy a few hens can bring to a house hold. That is a great point, however. I do let them out about 1 hour before sun down but I stopped on about the 4th day I realized there were no eggs. My kids and I did do a good once around the yard too. Just in case.
