I'm considering getting started with goats a few months down the road. Anyone know of a stud service available in the valley? I plan on getting two good milking does, and then breeding to a good meat goat (Boer?) for the freshenings. My idea is to alternate between the does on who is milking and who is pregnant.
Thanks.

Hello Derrell,
I currently raise Nigerian Dwarf goats if you're looking for some studs I have a couple bucklings who will be ready to breed very soon. I have their mommas here if you'd like to take a look. Pricing is $100 per goat which includes feed for the month, any vaccines she'll need and deworming. She would need to be boarded for 30 days and if she doesn't take the first go round you can bring her back for free.

I don't know of a stud service per se, but many breeders will allow you to rent a buck, or will board your does for a few weeks during the breeding season for a fee. Some even get their bucks collected and will sell the straws so that there's no direct contact between the does and buck. The recently renamed Arizona State Goat Breeders Association runs shows for Boers and Dairy goats alike, and you can finder breeders through the:

ABGA - www.abga.org

Yes,the breed has not one, but three different opposing registries. Find a breeder ahead of time who's willing to provide a stud service, because many of them may require that your does test negative for things like CAE, CL, and other common goat diseases. Also, you may want to find someone more knowledgeable about dairy breeds, because although Boers can breed year-round, I believe dairies are seasonal breeders, and I'm not entirely sure your rotational idea would work with their heat cycle.
