Feed storage???

It's getting a bit cramped in my laundry room with a 50lb container of chicken feed.  I had been told to store my chicken feed only in a dry climate controlled area for best freshness and quality. Does anyone else out there do this or am I  the only one sharing quarters with their livestock feed?? I go through it every three weeks, can I store it outside in my very well ventilated goat shed?

  • I store my chicken feed in a rubbermaid container outside on a shelf. I've had no problems with this.
  • If you have it for only 3 weeks, than yes, go ahead and store it in the goat shed! Keep it in some sort of pest-proof container so you don't attract roaches, mice etc... Heat will cause the feed to deteriorate more rapidly, so in the peak of summer heat, if you are concerned about it you can bring it back in-- most people probably don't. :)
    • Thanks Rachel!  I will reclaim the laundry room :)
