We are down to two chickens (having moved the roosters on). Each morning there is a great deal of clucking, goes on for maybe 20-30 minutes but no eggs. They were born in mid-August. Do you think they are not getting enough light and maybe I should rig up a lamp out there or is clucking a precursor for egg laying and I should continue to be patient. They appear to be in good spirits, play in the yard during their free time, eat, drink, generally chicky-merry.
Thanks! Happy New Year

I am not an expert but I think this cold snap has slowed my girls laying down. Maybe a few warmer days and you can "eggs"pect more than cackling. blessings!
Are their combs bright red? Do they squat when you approach?
These are both signs that they are ready to lay any day.
