Chicken pecking eyes

Just thought I'd post for anyone with small children:Yesterday my 5yr old son was sitting on the ground looking at our hens, and one of them walked up to him and pecked him right in the eye! He's ok but it scared him and hurt.I'm pretty certain she pecked his eye because he was blinking and chickens are attracted to movement like that. She probably thought his lashes were fuzzy caterpillars.....She's not mean at all. So just thought I'd share with everyone with kids, make sure they keep their faces at a safe distance!

  • "Fuzzy AND shiny, oh, I think I'll check that out!" Grown ups should be careful too. My sister-in-law was pecked in the eye while picking something up off the ground. I think they just see something interesting and peck, no malice intended. I'm glad your son is OK and I hope he is OK with the chickens.
  • Good to know! Thank you.
  • Glad your son is OK! My daughter mainly plays "chicken tag" she runs and the girls chase after, hoping for treats. I will tell her about your son's experience. Thanks for sharing!
