This morning I went out to feed my 8 white doves, and I found them all on the floor of the aviary doing yoga! They had lined up in the sun, and started doing postures. 'Downward dove, the Warrior, Mountain Pose", and one where they tip onto one side and extend the opposite wing, foot, and half of tail. I guess that would be the "Star". Wish I'd had my camera.Truth is, doves and other birds love sun. So if you have an aviary, be sure to allow sun to hit the floor of the aviary part of the day for doves. This is not so important for other birds, the sun does not have to reach the floor as long as it reaches perches on one side of the aviary.

My aviary gets the sun in from the east side, and all other sides are screened off to keep it from getting too hot. I'll be planting jojoba and desert hackberry around the other sides to cool it. Twice a week I sweep out the droppings and place them in the basin around a tree.
