Ok, every now and then you just have to say it no matter how it sounds. Ok, here goes. "Dear Time magazine, we have been saying this since at least 1980. With 85% of the US seafood supply produced overseas, we are glad you have finally seen the light. U.S. Aquaculture (including Arizona Urban Aquaponics) is our future!"

  • Good morning. Thank you for the kind words. I took a moment and went back in my records. Here is a blog I wrote early 2010 that covers many of the points in the Time article relating to recovering America's seafood economy after the BP oil spill:  http://bitly.com/d3kJjM

    Its called "Grow Baby Grow."

A little later, the Florida Courier picked the story up and published a re-write focused on their market.

  • Thank you, Dr. Brooks - that was a needed article on the subject.  The whole subject of sustainability appears to be one of those of us who support the premise - dragging into the view, of the rest of the country/world who don't have a clue about where their food comes from - I had a discussion once with a young family at a sustainability lecture series out in the west valley (I was one of the speakers).  They asked why so much water was given over to local agriculture when it should be diverted to cities.  They were not being stupid.  They were raised in a climate that if you wanted peaches in the winter you could have them, because they could be imported to satisfy the need.  After I explained why local is better, healthier and more sustainable their reactions were very different.
