  • Hi, I'm new to this forum. I've been trying to grow dragon fruit from seed. I get them to sprout easily and they appear like "Y"s. However, they get stuck there and won't put out spiny growth. I've fertilized them and cared for them, but I lose interest after several months of no growth. I have used grocery store dragon fruit without the irradiation symbol, but wonder if they might have been irradiated anyway. Any suggestions?
  • one of the gals who's home was featured on the Arcadia Farm tour had some success with the Bacon Avocado variety....she had small fruits on it this year during the tour...I think she said wind damage destroyed one of her previous yr crops...it was an understory tree in a corner somewhat shaded micro-climate..

  • Ooh, dragon fruit. My son's favorite.

  • You might consider the more dwarf, somewhat native mulberry, Morus Microphylla...beautiful tree that does well in metro Phoenix with small, maple-lik shaped leaves...unfortunately, the one I currently have is not a fruiting female, but I had I a female previously...and the edible fruit is quiet tasty...purchase mine from Desert Survivors in Tucson; they have One you can view on site..

  • Mulberry trees my lessen the amount of sunlight the nearby fruit trees gets to prevent them from fruiting.  That is the only incompatibility.  That said, I'd do it.  There is a lot of reflected light in Phoenix and fruit trees as long as they are not completely shaded out seem to do well with six hours of direct light---so plant accordingly.

  • There is a dwarf black fruited overbearing mulberry that would not shade the other trees.  Saw one on ebay for sale at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dwarf-Everbearing-Black-Mulberry-Tree-Morus...

  • Hi all,

I have a big established mulberry tree (don't know the variety, but has cream colored berries) on the southeast side of my house.  I want to plant a peach and or plum to the east of it.  Advisable? Someone told me that mulberries are incompatible with certain other fruit trees. This person also said that an apple would be fine next to the mulberry, but didn't know about the stone fruits.  Comments? Thanks.

  • Hi Catherine, I'm going to create a discussion topic around cherries so people can respond to the topic instead of a ramble of comments on this page.

  • Royal Lee and Mini Lee cherry trees:

Got a question for anyone growing them.  We purchased ours through the tree sale.  Planted and they are pushing out a lot of leaves - very happy plants at this point.  The question:

The Minnie is putting out new branches and leaves and the Royal is only putting out new leaves but no branches.  Anyone having similar growth patterns?

Raspberries in Phoenix area

In past years I've tried Raspberries from local nursery's, grew OK the first year but died the second. Dorman raspberry is supposed to grow in zone 11 but from what I read it has very little taste. Has anyone grown Bababerrry Raspberries? I understand they are very flavorful.?
