  • This will be our first summer with the system so far I have had a lot of evaporation but I have not attempted find the rate of evaporation yet. We had mint in one of the grow beds and to say it was prolific is quite an understatement. The mint took over the entire bed choked everything else planted and was trying to escape the bed it was planted in by sending shooters out to the other bed and the ground. We just took all of it out aside from a plant or two so we can try something else this summer. The fish are doing very well and we are hoping to breed them so we can create a larger system. I do have some pictures of our first aquaponics attempt and will post them soon.

"evaporation is my biggest concern. I'm sure it uses less water than standard gardening, question is how much. I estimate maybe a gallon a day during summer months for a medium sized system?"

"hey Brook, I'm very interested in your system's performance. In particular how successful the crops were in the summer months and what the evaporation rate was. Please post pics if you have them!"

"Levi, thanks for the welcome. I think one of my comments on Portable Farms product might have been erased. I can assure this group Im not promoting their product. I think Aquaponics has interesting applications for Arizona."
