looks like a boxelder bug (according to Google), except not as flat & I have LOTS of them on my tomato plants. I'll try to catch one for a photo.

Could it be a leaf-footed bug? Hope not. They're horrible to get rid of, and will go for tomatoes. They're a menace to pomegranates, too.
I too have this bug and I do not have an answer.
