Tour de Coops and Aquaponics

Call for Coops and an invitation for Aquaponics Group to have a presence at one of the coops! The tour is educational as well as fun, and we want to expose the group's methods on aquaponics to a large audience. If you have an interesting coop, and have a great example of how aquaponics occurs at the same location, we want you! We have allotted up to 10 coop locations as examples of the VPA's website groups such as yours.

If you are interested, please contact coops@vpaaz.org for an application. If you want more information, or would like to join the TdC committee, we are having an information session at Urban Beans, May 20, from Noon-2 o'clock.

  • With the permission of the facility, I would like to recommend the Valley View Orchard Community Learning Center at 911 W. Baseline Rd. Phoenix Az.

You visited them last year but they have done a lot of work since then. A Community organization working in cooperation with the Valley View Elementary School, The 7 acre Valley View Orchard and Learning Center is dedicated to working with Valley View students in developing an hands on practical knowledge of urban farming along with the comprehensive science (biology, zoology, chemistry, ecology, botany, nutrition, mathematics,  engineering, sustainability, etc) business, agricultural and cooperative skills that make farming possible.

  • We have both but not the best examples, unfortunately. If all else fails I'll talk to my husband about it. But our coop and our aquaponics are both in the early stages. I'm sure there are many more fine examples other than ours.

  • Greetings. I pray someone is able to answer your call. It seems like a great opportunity. If not, would you consider looking  at aquaponics as a fish coop? I am being quite serious, as you suggested this is a great chance to expose aquaponics to a larger audience. I would hate to miss it.

    • Now that is a spin on it!!! We might require a chicken be involved somewhere, but I'll bring it to the committee. Do you know many of the other members? Anyone with poultry? No matter what, I think Aquaponics should have a table at a coop, even if there is not an aquaponics example at that location. The goal is to create a greater exposure the ALL that the VPA offers. Let me know if you have a lead.

      Thank you,

      Matt
