Hi Gary, welcome to the VPA! I can assure you, adult chickens will face down that tomcat with no problem at all. We have three ferals that we've "fixed" and now we care for, and they are scared to death of our chickens! When we have a hen with chicks, we do keep them safe in a coop though rather than out in the big chicken fence with the others.

You were around when organic was a real subculture along with everything else that was going on back then. Isn't it funny (and wonderful) to see it coming back again, this time so strongly it's almost mainstream?

I hope you enjoy yourself here at the VPA, and that you get a chance to share your wisdom with others, as well as learn from the amazing fount of knowledge that is here.

      Sincerely,

      Jane Doyle

    About Me:

I have PVs on our home's roof and drive a Nissan LEAF, which is an ALL electric car. We have two organic fruit trees, navel orange and Meyer lemon. I've held off having chickens and an organic garden because of a large, stray Tomcat that easily jumps the 6 foot wall and comes into our yard.
