About Me:
I've been interested in growing my own food for some time now. I've had hydroponic gardens and now an outside garden that I love. Growing in Phoenix seems a bit more difficult with the harsh heat, and I am dedicated to creating a deciduous canopy for my now barren yard. I'd then like to have a variety of fruit trees beneath. I've been eagerly trying to find employment in the Horticulture industry for years now and continue to strive for a degree in Horticulture at ASU in Mesa. I live in west Phoenix and wonder if there are other education paths I can take in order to become a professional with a career. I've taken courses in Horticulture at California colleges thinking I can transfer my credits to an Arizona college only to find I must retake courses and also more courses in Math and Chemistry that really don't fulfill my interests. I noticed you offer courses in permaculture, I also found other schools at the Botanical Gardens to gain a certificate as a desert landscaper, and also a Master Gardener for U of A offered in Sun City. All of these courses seem great, but money is an issue and I don't want to get involved with educational path that will do little for me. Since I've been unemployed for many months I have had some landscaping positions that had me mowing lawns. I want to create food forests and also make a living. I was interested in writing to your guild in hopes that you might have some ideas. Sincerely, David Paul Rodriguez
