Hello VPA Rare & Exotic Fruitees!
You are invited to this AZRFG September Meeting special event:
AZRFG September Meeting:
Welcomes Tom Spellman (Dave Wilson Nursery)
Friday, Sept 4th at 7:00pm, at Mesa Comm College:
InterSpecific Hybrids
&
Zaiger Genetics
This month, the Arizona Rare Fruit Growers welcomes our special guest, Tom Spellman, the SW Regional Sales Manager for Dave Wilson Nursery and “Director of Infotainment” on the DWN FruitTube video channel.
Dave Wilson Nursery is the world’s largest propagator of interspecific hybrids, and major supplier of deciduous fruit trees -- over 9 million last year! Working with Zaiger Genetics and their plant breeding team, DWN has brought us the delicious pluots, apriums, the nectaplum and pluerry -- fruits combining the most desired characteristics including: fruits with longer hang time (they can stay fresh on the trees), fruits that store longer, fruits that endure transit better, plants that flower at different times and fruit that fully develops and comes to market at later times, and, of course, superior taste!
Tom will cover a little background on the history of breeding interspecific plants as a whole before jumping into the new varieties that were the product of such hybridization and what might be coming down the pipeline to look forward to!
After the presentation, there will be about 30 minutes open for Q&A with Tom!
We'll wrap up the meeting with refreshments, fruit tasting and mingling 'til about 9:30.

Meeting Room CHANGE
Our event has been moved across the MCC campus from the Navajo Room over to the Library LB145 Meeting Room.
The Library is on the WEST side of the campus, and the nearby parking lot is best access off of Dobson Rd. An updated map can be found HERE, and it shows a very short walk from the parking lot to the back of the Library (west facing) that takes you to a door leading directly into our meeting room.
