  • It should dry out by Tuesday - I can't help you but you can take all you like.  I'm at 6629 E. Thunderbird.  You can see it in the driveway.  I've used all I will need - piled it in the yard for now.  I need to get it off the drive so let me know when your done and I can let others come get some if you don't take it all :)

  • Mary we have onions in (finally) if you're still looking.  Give a shout if so.  602-433-7247 cell,  Steve

  • Mary, that's funny you mention the meat thermometer. I was just thinking yesterday that a meat thermometer would make a good soil thermometer. I have a couple of them. Any thoughts on my comment about germinating seed at our current soil temps?

  • I did!

  • I woulda swore I already did this!

  • He  did it last year.  The plants were huge,  but he said the gourds grew strange so he did not use them.  Plus he said it took from May to October to grow.  So I thought maybe it would be better to wait a bit to plant my gourds.

  • Thanks Mary, the neighbor had some huge gourd plants last year and he said he planted them in May.  So I was wondering if now was a good time.

  • Thanks for the info, Mary!

  • I will try to make three equal bags so that everyone who responded receives chicken poop.

  • Hi Mary, I'm excited to win, thank you! I'll try the Oregon Spring tomato if that's okay with you. :) I didn't plant any fall tomatoes this year, so any tomato at all would be a real treat!

MaryMcP replied to MaryMcP's discussion Juicer Pulp in Growing Gourmet
"OK, it's quiet around here, on the board, so I went ahead and made the muffin recipe and it's very good.  Dense.  We didn't much like the chocolate chips, made them too sweet, not what I'm looking for in this recipe.  So I tried dried tart cherries…"

Hello, My friend with the peach tree has now bestowed upon me two bags of Anna apples.  I juiced most of them and would like to find a good recipe for using the apple pulp.  What do you foodies do with juicer pulp?  Especially fruit pulp.  I did…

MaryMcP replied to MaryMcP's discussion Making Rumtopf in Growing Gourmet
"Oh and Ah Hah - glass pickle weights.  I'll look for these.  I may try the slender mason jar but I painted the big jar to keep out light and adding that jar, unpainted, would cancel some of that benefit.  I found a really cool metallic blue can of…"

Catherine, The Herb Lady replied to MaryMcP's discussion Making Rumtopf in Growing Gourmet
"Mary based on my experiences with both the fruit and even my sauerkraut fermenting, I have not personally worried about the bits floating.  With the alcohol there is quite a bit of saturation of the liquor into the fruit.  If something molds it…"

"Catherine, thanks for all those great details.  I used a half-gallon mason jar, it's tall and slender as opposed to short and stout.  I was able to get about 3#'s of de-skinned peaches packed in and poured maybe a quarter of the 750 ml bottle of…"

"Mary - The botulism warnings are always there and for good reason, because some people just do not pay attention.

Either air tight or not - as long as the fruit is always under the liquor surface it will be fine.  If not airtight - the alcohol will…"

"Very generous offer Leanne!  I'll keep it in mind if I get a large batch.  I'll start some today, maybe use Wild Turkey since a high proof liquor is recommended.  WT is 101.  Catherine can you confirm that the crock should not be air-tight?  One…"

Catherine, The Herb Lady replied to MaryMcP's discussion Making Rumtopf in Growing Gourmet
"Hi Mary,  I've made rumtopf :-)
It is easy.  You need to choose the booze you prefer, sugar is optional but a good idea.  The fruit has to always sit below the surface of the booze - think soaking any fruit in brandy or similar.  The fruit flavors…"

Anyone doing/done this?  My friend's peach tree is giving us LOTS of very yummy fruit but we can't keep up with it.  In past years I've cut and frozen it but was looking for something different.  I have a crock that I think will work so I'm going to…

MaryMcP replied to Chad's discussion Any Extra Wire in Micro Livestock
"Hi Chad,  I have a partial roll of chicken wire you can have, not sure if it's 100' but there's at least one quarter of that.  I don't like the stuff and switched to using hardware cloth when I need fencing, etc.  I'm near 43rd Ave and Peoria and…"
